Castelnau-Bretenoux castle<\/strong>, whose origins date back to the 12th century<\/strong>, was built by the Lords of Castelnau<\/strong> to defend the Quercy borders. Over the centuries, it passed through the hands of several noble families who contributed to its enlargement and fortification, reflecting the evolution of military techniques and architecture of the time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the 14th century<\/strong>, the castle was considerably reinforced by Bernard de Castelnau<\/strong>, who added imposing fortifications to resist regional conflicts. This fortification effort continued with his descendants, notably during the Hundred Years’ War, when the castle played a key defensive role in the region. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
