The Gulf of Padirac is one visit that you must not miss! It’s France’s number one subterranean visitor attraction, a monumental natural chasm situated a few kilometres from Rocamadour.
It is 35 metres in diameter and the gulf has a drop of 75 metres from the plateau’s surface. At the bottom, 103 metres underground, the river Padirac flows along into a network of galleries more than 40 km long.
The tour begins with a boat ride on the underground river. First you will see the Grande Pendeloque (a giant stalactite 60 metres high) hanging above the Lac de la Pluie, then the Lac des Gours (a series of natural dams), and then the Salle du Grand Dôme, 94 metres from floor to ceiling!
