The Lot department is one of Occitanie’s little nuggets. While strolling through ancient villages or hiking through natural sites is a great way to explore the valley, what about canoeing in the Lot for a different view of the landscape?
Where can you go canoeing in the Lot?
Would you like to contemplate a raw, verdant landscape, some of France’s most beautiful villages or the limestone cliffs of the Occitan region? Depending on your aspirations, there are various canoeing spots to choose from in the Lot. Numerous canoe and kayak rental establishments are located near our Lot campsite .
Copeyre Canoe
Copeyre is an amusement park offering 12 canoe bases from Argentat to Beynac.
In all, there are 72 canoe routes to choose from across the Lot, Corrèze and Dordogne.
As for canoeing in the Lot, Copeyre’s circuits cover a good proportion of the communes in the north of the department. From Souillac to Puybrun, via Meyronne and Pinsac, you’ll find a course to suit your level.
Families with children can opt to spend a few hours on the water, while more experienced paddlers can enjoy a multi-day adventure.
Canoe Cap
Cap Evasion rents canoes in Saint-Julien-de-Lampon to glide along the river and explore the Dordogne and Lot valleys, from Beynac to Cazoulès.
Routes focus on different themes, depending on the holidaymaker’s profile, but also on how much time you want to devote to your nature activity.
For example, the canoeing circuit near the Lot (Cazoulès-Saint-Julien-de-Lampon) features a wild panorama.
Ideal if you’re looking for a change of scenery!
The route is particularly suitable for first-time canoeists, as the gentle current makes it easy to handle your craft.
The Lot Canoe Kayak
The Floiras nautical base is located on the banks of the river at Anglars-Juillac.
This facility is a little further south than our campsite in Loupiac.
The base’s canoe route stretches from Cahors to Fumel.
As you paddle along, you’ll catch a glimpse of the Valentré bridge or the village of Puy-Levêque perched on a small hill.
As well as canoeing, you can rent a motorboat or go stand-up paddling.
And if you prefer land-based activities, you can rent a mountain bike.
Why canoe in the Lot?
There are so many good reasons to go canoeing in the Lot.
This activity lets you admire the treasures of the Lot from the river.
From your boat, you’ll have a better vantage point from which to contemplate the department’s riches in all their splendour.
In and around the department, you’ll find a variety of rivers, each offering different views of their shores.
Alternate between lush, wild riverbanks, shores dotted with centuries-old castles and remarkable white cliffs as you cruise along.
You can also take advantage of breaks to cool off in the water.
The region’s rivers are ideal for swimming, and have nothing to envy the sea.
What’s more, beautiful beaches can be found along the canoeing routes in the Lot.
So you can avoid mass tourism on the coast and still enjoy a vacation with your feet in the water!
