La Bastide de Domme

The Bastide de Domme is a fortified town in the Dordogne region of south-west France. Domme has a long and rich history dating back to the 13th century. It was founded in 1281 by Philippe III of France and was originally intended to be a fortified town. Over the years, however, it developed into a peaceful and prosperous community. Today, Domme is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of France’s most popular tourist destinations.

There’s plenty to do in the town from your Domme campsite. Here are just a few ideas:

• Visit Château de Domme. This imposing fortress overlooks the picturesque town of Domme and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Inside, you can explore the dungeons, ramparts and Grande Salle, or simply enjoy a picnic in the adjacent park.
• Take a stroll through the Jardin de la République. This charming public garden, located in the center of Domme, is an ideal place to relax and get some fresh air. The garden features pretty flowers, shady trees and a bubbling fountain, a perfect stroll for a summer’s day.
• Buy souvenirs at the Marché aux Fleurs. This weekly market, held every Wednesday morning, is a great place to find locally made arts and crafts, fresh produce and much more.
• Taste the local cuisine. Domme is famous for its excellent restaurants, serving traditional French dishes such as foie gras, confit de canard and truffade (a type of potato dish). For a sweet dessert, try the town’s famous cherry clafoutis.
• Take a wine tasting tour of nearby vineyards. The Dordogne region is renowned for its wines, and several vineyards are located just outside the town.
