The Causses-du-Quercy Regional Nature Park is an ideal destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. This protected area covers over 200,000 hectares and is home to a variety of landscapes, from forests and mountains to valleys and rivers. Numerous hiking and mountain biking trails are available, and a number ofleisure activities such as canoeing, horse riding and climbing are accessible around the Causses-du-Quercy campsite.
The Causses du Quercy Regional Nature Park is also a great place to discover local history and culture. Indeed, there are several museums and interpretation centers, as well as traditional villages and towns to explore around the park, here are some of our favorite places:
- Prehistoric rock paintings at Pech Merle: These famous rock paintings date back over 20,000 years and are considered one of the finest examples of rock art in Europe.
- The village of Saint-Cirq Lapopie: This picturesque medieval village is perched atop a cliff overlooking the Lot valley. It is one of the region’s most popular tourist destinations and has been voted one of the “most beautiful villages in France”.
- The town of Rocamadour: This cliffside town is home to a number of historic monuments, including the sanctuary of Notre Dame de Rocamadour, a popular place of pilgrimage.
