The history of Manoir de Gisson

The Manoir de Gisson, nestled in the heart of the medieval town of Sarlat-la-Canéda, is a remarkable testimony to the history of Périgord. Built from the 13th century onwards, the building has belonged to several noble families of the region, including the famous Gisson family, who gave their name to the manor.

During the medieval period, Sarlat enjoyed a notable economic and political dynamism, and aristocratic residences such as the Manoir de Gisson were at the heart of this activity. The manor was home to a number of influential families who left their mark on local history, notably through their involvement in the administration of the city and their role in the development of the region. The Gisson family, in particular, distinguished themselves through their political and social influence in Sarlat.

Over time, the manor house has undergone several architectural transformations, while retaining its original character. Today, it remains one of the witnesses to Sarlat’s medieval history, offering visitors a unique insight into aristocratic life in the Périgord region.
